Our Therapies

Early Intervention Programme

The Early Intervention Programme (EIP) targets children from birth to 6 years old at risk of or experiencing developmental, intellectual, sensory, or physical challenges. It focuses on executive functioning skills critical for a child’s development, including regulation, organisation, and motivation. Early focus on these foundational areas ensures children develop the necessary skills for effective learning and interactions, aiming for their optimal developmental outcomes.

Our team consists of carefully selected educators and therapists chosen for their outstanding character traits, extensive years of relevant experience, unwavering dedication to empowering families, and expertise in intervention approaches aimed at fostering Regulation, Organisation, and Motivation (ROM). Our primary focus remains on nurturing every facet of a child’s development within an enriched environment that encourages both enjoyment and exploration.”

REGULATION

Regulation is the ability to monitor and manage your own energy states, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that are acceptable and produce positive results such as well-being, loving relationships, and learning.

ORGANISATION

Organisation is the ability to initiate, sequence action steps, complete a goal directed task, and move on to the next task.

MOTIVATION

Motivation refers to the internal or external factors that drive, energize, and direct our behavior towards achieving a goal or satisfying a need.

Early Intervention Programme for Children’s Developmental Challenges

Every child is unique and deserves a chance to thrive. EIP is a specially designed programme for children in Singapore who might benefit from extra support during their crucial developmental years. Our therapists will provide training for children with the following challenges:

  • Speech or Movement: Children experiencing delays in speech or movement may take longer to reach milestones, such as speaking in sentences or mastering physical activities like jumping or running, which can affect communication and motor skills development.
  • Understanding or Following Instructions: This can manifest as challenges in processing verbal directions or completing tasks as requested, potentially hindering learning and daily functioning.
  • Social Interactions: Some children may find it hard to engage with peers, understand social cues, or respond appropriately in social settings, impacting their ability to form friendships and interact effectively.
  • Academic and Recreational Engagement: This encompasses difficulties in academic tasks, trouble focusing during lessons, or not participating in play with peers, which can influence a child’s academic performance and social integration.

How to Develop Your Child Through Early Intervention Programme

At Cornerstone Therapy, our comprehensive approach to EIP is designed to give children the personalised support needed to thrive. Here’s how we aim to nurture their growth:

  • Tailored Support: Each child is assessed to create a customised plan that addresses their specific developmental needs, ensuring they receive the most effective support.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Approach: Our team of specialists, including occupational therapists, speech therapists, and educational psychologists, work together to provide a holistic intervention strategy.
  • Engaging Learning Activities: Through play-based learning and structured activities, children are encouraged to develop key skills in communication, social interaction, and cognitive understanding.
  • Family Involvement: We believe in the crucial role of families in early intervention. Our programme includes guidance and resources for parents and caregivers to continue support at home.
  • Transition Planning: As children progress, we prepare them and their families for the next steps, whether it’s transitioning to preschool or adjusting the support plan to meet their evolving needs.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Increased emphasis on upskilling parents and caregivers
  • Training of parents and caregivers to carry out intervention strategies in the child’s daily routines at home
  • Embeds learning opportunities throughout the child’s daily life, leading to a more sustainable outcome
  • Improved motor, communication, social, self-help and cognitive skills
  • Provides transition support for parents with children who will be due for entry into primary school (special education or mainstream primary school) by providing information on post-preschool placements, school readiness assessment and more

Experienced and Qualified Occupational Therapists in Singapore

Finding the right therapist who aligns with your values, skills and experience is crucial for both your and your child’s success. An occupational therapist is not merely a professional providing a service, but a trusted partner in your parenting journey.

At Cornerstone Therapy, we meticulously select our team based on their character traits, years of relevant experience, commitment to family empowerment, and knowledge in intervention approaches to build Self-Regulation, Organisation and Motivation (ROM).

The ROM Theory is the cornerstone of our therapy because we prioritise ensuring that your child is regulated, organised and motivated during therapy. This ensures that the child will be actively engaged in the activities specially designed for them. This active engagement is how we achieve meaningful progress in speech, communication, and social skills, whether it’s through the Early Intervention Programme, speech therapy, occupational therapy or other therapeutic forms.

By building and developing these skills, children can then apply them to real-world environments more effectively, enabling them to interact with others more successfully, and embrace a broader array of learning opportunities. These are the outcomes that our speech therapists strive to achieve.
